262 - Rainbow
This month's featured SolCatcher is for a young woman who goes by the nickname Rainbow. She purchased this SolCatcher for her grandmother. At First Thursday on March 1, 2012, she came up to my booth looking for one that I had that was similar to the one you see here - she had her money ready and knew exactly what she wanted. The only problem was that I had sold it the weekend beforehand and so it was gone. Her face fell and her disappointment was palatable. She explained to me that her grandmother had saved her and her mother from becoming homeless and that she wanted to show her grandmother how much she appreciated and loved her. She told me that she was often referred to as "Rainbow" and knew that the rainbow-like SolCatcher would be something her grandmother would just love. She was so disappointed...until I told her I could make another one much like the one she wanted to buy. Her face lit up with joy and she quickly pressed her hard earned money into my hand asking me really, can you make another one for me please? I said sure - I'll start on it immediately. And so the next day I did and I finished it the following Saturday.
From devastation to joy in a matter of seconds. I just finished the piece this morning and hope to be able to give it to her tomorrow - Sunday March 4. I made a few enhancements to the original design and hope that she likes it. The amethyst represents recovery. While traditionally that means recovery from drug and alcohol use, it could also mean recovery from economic difficulties as well. The color purple has also been associated with feminine power, of which Rainbow's family has much. The blue means tranquility as I hope this piece brings Rainbow and her family tranquility. Green is for healing - nearly becoming homeless can be very traumatic and so I wish for healing for Rainbow and her mother. The black represents those dark times but note that the black is surrounded by color - and that color is Rainbow herself as she is a lovely young lady, full of life and very caring. Yellow represents forgiveness of self and others. The color orange represents change. Rainbow and her family has undergone much change and I sense more change to come. Finally red means, obviously love - the love Rainbow has for her family. But it also represents Rainbow''s inner strength and spirit and passion.
I sincerely hope that Rainbow and her grandmother like this one of a kind SolCatcher created just for them with love and caring by me. Peace, Leslie
